2014 Moderator Election

On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Having been involved with cstheory since its inception, I am very glad to see that it has become a useful resource for researchers. I have been an active user and promoter of this site and have a reasonably high rating. I usually visit the site daily (at least), and I've been helping out in moderating to the extent my privilages have allowed. I think the current moderators have done a great job, and I am volunteering because I want to contribute to helping the site thrive.

am volunteering based on lack of other volunteer(s) so far & last-minute breaking key info from current mod DC in a comment who states that 1-2 moderators are planning to step down [this is not clearly indicated in any election details provided to the group so far; think they are too brief & not informative/communicative enough right now] & that suresh is committed to stay on. (have voted for all 6 individuals endorsed as other moderators in that post but none have volunteered at this last minute...are they all aware they've been endorsed?)

like suresh's low-key moderator style & think it would be possible to work together as a team in the same direction & with any other new moderator eg SN who has also volunteered, & hopefully inject some fresh/different energy into the group. can/will fill out more details/intentions/personal bkg at a later moment based on next stages.

I have been an active participant in CStheory for a couple of years now, and am one of top rated users. I have also been doing some moderation afforded by my points: closing off topic and inappropriate questions, and reviewing edits. Would be happy to help more as a moderator.

My hope is that cstheory and other Q&A sites become part of the typical research workflow for more and more researchers. I've been an active user for over 3 years. Aside from asking and answering questions, I have done my best to be an active voter and meta participant. I am very happy with the existing moderators and their encouragement of community self-moderation, and hope this trend continues.
